Food Island opened this week with the ribbon cutting of Phil's Supermarket, a unique food interactive experience with clickable foods with recipes, cooking tips and demonstrations, food forum discussions and events, supermarket tours for healthy eating and many opportunities to share delicious food samples and experiences. Kraft, the first major partner for this project, made a $450,000 gift to Second Harvest, America's Food Bank, and the avatar SecondHarvest Shepherd received the check in Second Life on Food Island and in the Kraft booth at FMI. Phil Lempert and Janet Myers from Kraft hosted hourly food forum events live and both IBM and Kraft shared the broadcast of this gift at the FMI show. I hope many more companies will look to empowering their nonprofit partners through innovative endeavors like this integration of food, health, care and at-home-interactivity.
